Antonio Gandossi

A small portrait of Anthony Gandossi, not to frame but only to read, is it the case to do it, and who better of me can paint it ? He was born in that of Dolo, between Padua and Venice, between fog and Palladian villas, June 11 th 1949. He spent  a lot of his adolescence among Pavia, Vercelli, Frosinone, Turin, finally landing to Rome where he studied and  graduated in  Architecture. He had for a long time two passions: to draw and to travel. The first passion came out very soon and at six, after having painted all the walls of his house, he  got his first one man show in the elementary school in Pavia (well 40 sketches original exhibited to the admiration of the companions), but it was just in 1988 that he began  “to dirty" canvas with oil colours. And the passion went off!

In the meantime, following his second but not inferior passion, that of the trips, visited almost all the places that have inspired the great painters and those where the fruits of such inspirations are collected. Three times to Amsterdam in the temple of Van Gogh, in Paris in the middle of the Impressionists and Espressionisti, in Moscow and St. Petersbourg, in London, Berlin, Madrid and so on, assimilating techniques, ideas, inspirations and aspirations of the Great ones. In his desire to express himself with the colours  he doesn't limit himself to use only one tec hnique, the desire to try brings him to experiment colours and different materials, in short, we can say, he enjoys himself ! In the 1995 Gene Pompa calls him to belong to the GROV - Gruppo Romano Operatori Visivi - of which he is the inspirer and President. With the GROV he  took part in shows in Italy and in Germany. He has got some recognitions to national level  both in graphics and in  paintings. The time to be devoted to the art is few, but he succeeds in cutting out  moments in which to unload in the colours all the accumulated tensions. Lately Gene Pompa has literarily dragged him in collective and two men personal shows, to induce him to cultivate his particular way to represent landscapes, even if he goes on with his  “informal moments." Will be to see! In the meantime enjoy you his creations and if have given you  some emotion, write to him!

DI LUI HANNO DETTO:

Antonio Gandossi is a painter/writer. He paints fables. He does it in a simple way, like talking to a child, with the purity and innocence and at the same time with the imagination of a child. Emperor Marco Aurelio once said “The first rule in life: simplicity”.

Gandossi sees reality like a kaleidoscope of chances. If one is prepared to take chances, play with the elements, find new combinations, new forms of expressions, some dreams can become reality. Colours became the magic-wands that make it possible to animate objects, food and flowers, anything this talented artist looks upon.

There are no monster in Gandossi’s fables.

There are no torment in his creations, but to transmit a joy to live, that life is a magic experience, open to the game, to the interpretation of every spectator that wants to became a craftsman of it and protagonist.

The transparent colour of Gandossi’s picture is a mirror of his soul and his serene vision of the world, sincere, relieved by a slight hint of humour that can be born only from a lively intelligence and positive personality.

The apparent conceptual simplicity of his pictures derives from a precise choice: to open the road for the game, for the imagination, for a personal experience that could return some magic back to reality.

There are no lies in Gandossi’s fables.

There are no artifices in his pictures, there is no room for pretence, there is only the truth.

The Small Prince said: ”Adults don’t understand anything by themselves”, because they lost  their imagination. Gandossi recovered it, he underlined it, and he gave it values.

Gandossi introduces to our eyes the simplicity of the elements, which reflects and transmits serenity.

To observe, could also be a point of departure, to deepen and to interpret, to understand could also mean to imagine.

Perhaps this is the message from the man Gandossi rather then the artist Gandossi.

 (Carlo Serafini)

Operating free from fashion or market trends, Gandossi has divided his painting according to his own formal and chromatic urgencies, between figurative and abstract.

This way, Gandossi’s paintings have started to relive a season with intense “astrattismo” of colours and formal ideation, figurative and poetically as it all dissolves into his landscape paintings. So many people, flowers and objects were captured in one silent moment as the landscape expanded in sonorous dimensions that sing the praise of mother nature.

Gandossi the artist ignored all formal choices and emotional suggestions, a sudden state of mind.

But the ability of the artist must be specified in order to formulate its abstractions and change the shade.

For the irony and the keenness translated in pictorial terms, for the taste and the rich palette, for the symbolic meaning, for the poetic interpretation, caring for details, for the “smiling” effect.

(Gustavo Delgado)

The originality of the composition resides in the expressive tension, in the curious impertinence, in the immediate existensial coloration that forces one to take a closer examination of his work, because the graphic precision of his work is like the recovery of lost feelings.

Analysis is poetic redemption of the image, necessity of testimony and the awareness of life.

 (Giovanni Carluccio Attimonelli)

Gandossi’s painting has a strong impact one could interpret different messages, it is certainly the fruit of “marked” memoirs, emotions, and existential intuitions of the artist.

(Mia Calvelli)

I believe that his painting is totally unconventional, in a figurative or informal way, but in both cases it is the expressive form of the artist, a “manifesto” of himself. Antonio Gandossi declares “apertis verbis” his own vocation for the search of the human being. Discourse of lyric, inspiration, that incisively does him good, supported by an extraordinary spatial and chromatic dialectics that springs from the wise employment of the spatula and of mixed techniques. In a figurate way, sometime gathered, needed suggestion “vangoghiane”.

Always in daylight of colours, festive or low, depending on the message. It is in the abstractions, but the roots go down to the classical basics, it also deeply meditated, this is the mirror of life. In this case, the composition was wisely built, where drier and virile sign to make herself a modulation of colouristic.
